Daisy Briggs, born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island, has been writing songs since she was 12-years-old. Influenced early on by Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow, and Miranda Lambert, Briggs knew Nashville was the place she needed to be. Having dreamt of Music City since she began writing songs, it was only two years later, at 14, when she was first given the opportunity to perform at the legendary Bluebird Cafe.
This experience made such an impression that Briggs returned again the following year. At 18, after graduating high school, she moved to Nashville from Rhode Island, and was later accepted to Belmont University, where she’s currently pursuing a degree in English and Music Business. Now in her final year, Briggs balances her studies with regular performances at venues such as Belcourt Taps, Two Old Hippies, and many more Nashville institutions. In October 2016, she released her debut single, “Diamond Skies,” on iTunes, and worldwide streaming platforms.
More recently, Briggs was selected by veteran music publisher and artist mentor Judy Stakee—best known for her work with Sheryl Crow and Katy Perry—as one of 27 songwriters across the nation to participate in her 2018 “It All Starts With a Song” New York Songwriting Retreat. Under Stakee’s guidance, Briggs collaborated with other up-and-coming, as well as seasoned, writers for songs which she plans to release on her first EP.
Briggs continues to hone her songwriting and artistry by working with some of Nashville’s best private music instructors. Ultimately, the feeling she gets onstage, seeing the audience, whether friends or family, singing her words back to her, is what drives Briggs to keep pursuing her dream. Summer 2018 sees Briggs bringing a bit of Nashville back home to Rhode Island, where she’s excited to perform during Newport BridgeFest.
